Worry about SEO? Better worry about your project
Search Engine Optimization; all the things we do to improve our traffic, by making a website friendlier to search engines. More or less we all did it in many of our clients and personal projects.
The problem in many cases is that we end up spending much more time and effort in SEO, compared to the project planning and designing process. We have to clear things up and treat SEO like something that supports our work and not being our only target.
The “i want it all and i want it now” client
But let’s step back and see why SEO is actually killing our design work. The problem starts from the beginning of the brief. Clients asks for highest possible ranking without thinking of his actual content. He thinks that by adding some keywords here and there, and by having a nice and standards-compliant code, his project will hit page number one on search results.
Our top priority is to teach the client to base his project on content. Make him understand that he has to make the services he provides better and more well targeted. Refine his project.
What’s the point to have your page on the first page and disappoint your customers with poor experience and services just because you spent most of your time optimizing the website for search engines.
We have to stay out too
The other side of the coin is us. In order to please our customers we “waste” time to SEO, than working on making our javascript code better, or clear up our layout, or take a second thought about the color scheme.
SEO is about complex calculations, maths and always staying in touch with the latest techniques. As you can understand there is NO creativity. We have first to CREATE something good, something valuable and then SEO will come to finalize our work. It’s the cherry on top of the cake, and not the actual dessert. Use it wisely!
Muy buen post!!
